Most LogisVert heat pump rejections stem from seven avoidable errors: the unit is not ENERGY STAR certified, the outdoor unit is too small, the contractor is not licensed by the RBQ (Régie du bâtiment du Québec), the invoice is incomplete, the applicant is incorrect, the case is excluded, or the nine-month deadline has passed. Check these points before installation, not after.
The basic rules of LogisVert in 2026
LogisVert is Hydro-Québec’s program that subsidizes the installation of a heat pump in Quebec. The amount is $50 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating capacity at -8°C for an ENERGY STAR certified unit, and $120 for an ENERGY STAR “cold climate” unit (verified October 16, 2026). All the conditions below are taken from the LogisVert participation guide , version 1.10 of September 15, 2026, and the program’s residential page .
The 7 mistakes that cause an application to be rejected
- Installing a unit that is not ENERGY STAR certified. Hydro-Québec specifies that heat pumps installed on or after November 26, 2025, must be ENERGY STAR certified (verified October 16, 2026). The $120 rebate also requires “cold climate” certification. The brand name alone is not sufficient: the installed combination (outdoor unit and indoor units) must be included in the certification. Hydro-Québec offers a tool to search for eligible models.
- Choosing an outdoor unit that is too small is not recommended. The outdoor unit must have a nominal cooling capacity of at least 12,000 BTU/h. Therefore, a 9,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump, even an excellent one, is not sufficient on its own. The unit must also be new and purchased from a Quebec retailer or online from a company with a Quebec address.
- Hiring an unqualified installer is not acceptable. The work must be done by a contractor registered with the Quebec Enterprise Registrar, holding the appropriate licenses from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ), and a member of the relevant industry association. Installation done by yourself or by an installer without an RBQ license is not acceptable.
- Submitting an incomplete invoice is the most common mistake. The invoice must show that it has been paid and contain accurate information (see the list below), including the RBQ license number and the appliance’s AHRI or ENERGY STAR number. Is a line missing? The application is considered incomplete.
- Applying in the wrong name. The subsidy is only paid to the homeowner whose name appears on both the invoice and the proof of ownership. Tenants are not eligible for a heat pump. If the house is registered in the names of two spouses but the invoice is in only one name, verify the details before submitting.
- Falling into an excluded category. The guide specifically excludes: the replacement of a single coil or a single unit (indoor or outdoor); replacement after a breakdown covered by a warranty or insurance; indoor units or ducts located outside the insulated building envelope (in the attic); and the central heat pump in a house already equipped with a geothermal system. The same heat pump also cannot receive another subsidy from Hydro-Québec or any other government.
- Exceeding the nine-month deadline. The application must be submitted online no later than nine months after the installation date (verified October 16, 2026). For a multi-measure application, the deadline begins from the first measure. Applications sent by email or mail are not processed: all applications must be submitted through the logisvert.ca portal.
Documents required for a heat pump
Prepare these documents before opening your profile on the portal:
| Document | What it should contain |
|---|---|
| Proof of ownership | Municipal tax bill or first page of the deed of ownership |
| Invoice paid | Invoice number and date, installation date, customer name, installation address, installer name, GST and QST numbers, RBQ license number, description of appliance and work, AHRI or ENERGY STAR number, cost |
| Photo of the nameplate | Clear photo of the outdoor unit’s nameplate, showing the model and serial number, one per installed model |
| Tax information | Depending on your situation, NEQ, QST number or social insurance number, required for the RL-27 slip |
At HVAC MTL, our invoices already contain all this information, and we include the certification number of the installed unit. You simply need to take a picture of the plate, or we can take it for you on the day of installation.
After filing: the expected timeframes
- If the application is incomplete or ineligible, Hydro-Québec sends a notice, generally within about 20 business days.
- Once the file is complete, the processing takes 10 to 12 weeks.
- Hydro-Québec may request an on-site verification visit; you must grant them access within six months.
- Payment is made by check, sent to your correspondence address.
Hydro-Québec also reminds customers that it never solicits them by phone or door-to-door for LogisVert. Be wary of anyone claiming to “fill your application” in exchange for payment.
What is no longer offered: don’t choose the wrong program
Several applications are rejected because the homeowner relied on outdated information. As of March 31, 2026, the Chauffez vert program is no longer offered, and Rénoclimat no longer provides funding for heat pumps (verified October 16, 2026). For federal information, see our article on the 2026 federal heat pump subsidy . The complete and up-to-date table can be found on our heat pump subsidies page.
Our checklist before signing a bid
- Is the exact model (indoor and outdoor units) ENERGY STAR certified, and suitable for cold climates?
- Does the outdoor unit provide at least 12,000 BTU/h of cooling?
- Did the contractor give you their RBQ license number?
- Is your name on the quote the same as the name on your tax bill?
- Does your situation fall under any of the excluded cases?
- Did you note the filing deadline, nine months after installation?
Frequently Asked Questions
Why was my LogisVert application refused?
The most frequent causes are an incomplete invoice, a device not on the ENERGY STAR list, an outdoor unit of less than 12,000 BTU/h, an installer without an RBQ license, a different name between the invoice and the proof of ownership, or a claim filed more than nine months after installation.
Can a tenant obtain LogisVert for a heat pump?
No. For a heat pump, only owners of eligible dwellings can apply. Tenants are only eligible for certain other measures, such as induction cooktops or heat pump dryers.
Is a heat pump installed in a condo eligible?
Yes, condominiums are among the eligible housing units, provided they meet the other criteria. The “Multi-unit” bonus, however, excludes condominiums.
How long does it take to receive the check?
Allow 10 to 12 weeks from the time the application is complete, according to Hydro-Québec’s participation guide.
