It stopped heating
The unit blows lukewarm or cold air while in heating mode.Common causes: dirty filters or coil, low refrigerant (leak), faulty sensor or control board, outdoor unit iced up.
It freezes up or leaks
Ice forms on the lines or water runs down the wall under the indoor unit.Common causes: clogged condensate drain, poor airflow, refrigerant leak.
It shows an error code
A code or blinking light appears on the indoor unit or remote.Common causes: communication between units, temperature sensor, high or low pressure protection. Write down the code and model before calling.
It makes an unusual noise
Rattling, hissing, vibration or squealing that wasn’t there before.Common causes: dirty or unbalanced blower wheel, loose part, outdoor fan, worn stand or anti-vibration pads.
It won’t start
Nothing happens when switched on, or the outdoor unit stays off.Common causes: power supply or breaker, remote, capacitor, control board, compressor.
It keeps defrosting
The outdoor unit “steams” very often or stays covered in ice in winter.Common causes: a few minutes of defrost is normal; if it never stops: defrost sensor, low refrigerant, poor drainage under the unit.

Repair usually makes sense if…
- the unit is fairly recent and still under warranty;
- the fault involves an accessible part: sensor, capacitor, drain, fan;
- the heat pump heated well until now and has been maintained.
Replacement is worth considering if…
- the unit is old and breakdowns keep coming back;
- the compressor has failed out of warranty, or the unit uses an older refrigerant;
- it heats poorly in deep cold: a cold-climate model could also qualify for rebates.

Never open the refrigerant circuit
Adding refrigerant, brazing a line or replacing a compressor is work reserved for qualified refrigeration technicians. A DIY attempt can damage the unit, void the warranty and put your safety at risk. If you suspect a leak, switch the unit off and call us.
